Kemocarb 450mg injection contains Carboplatin which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-cancer agents. It is used to treat advanced ovarian cancer and small cell lung cancer. It is generally used in combination with other anti-cancer medicines to achieve better results. Kemocarb 450mg injection shows its working by stopping or slowing down the growth of cancer cells.

Kemocarb 450mg Injection is given as an injection into veins under the supervision of a doctor. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. It may take many weeks or months for you to notice or feel the effects, but do not stop taking it until your doctor advises you to do so.

The use of Kemocarb 450MG Injection may cause abnormal decrease in total blood counts. It may also cause nausea, vomiting, mouth sores, hearing loss, loss of taste, tingling or numbness of body parts, increased serum creatinine levels, difficult in passing urine, increased bilirubin levels in the blood and changes in vision.

You must inform your doctor if you experience allergic reactions with injection such as skin rash, itching, and trouble breathing. Many other medicines can affect, or be affected by, this medicine so let your healthcare team know all medications you are using.

This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The use of effective contraception by both males and females during treatment is important to avoid pregnancy.

MEDICINAL USE OF KEMOCARB 450MG INJECTION

It is used either alone or in combination with other anticancer medicines to treat:

  • Advanced ovarian cancer (cancer originated in ovary and spread to other parts of the body)
  • Small cell lung carcinoma (lung cancer)

Kemocarb 450mg injection acts as an alkylating agent. This medication reduces the proliferation of cells by inhibiting the formation of DNA, RNA, and proteins, which stops DNA replication and results in programmed cell death.

SIDE EFFECTS OF KEMOCARB 450MG INJECTION

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine.

  • Low blood counts (WBC, RBC, and platelets)
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Stomach pain and cramps
  • Increased urea levels in the blood
  • Low magnesium, sodium, and potassium levels in the blood
  • Kidney damage, liver damage
  • Tingling, burning, pricking sensation or numbness of body parts

DOSAGE OF KEMOCARB 450MG INJECTION
  • The dosage of Kemocarb 450mg Injection depends on many factors such as the patient age, health, medical condition or history of the patient and many other conditions.
  • SINGLE AGENT THERAPY for use in the treatment of recurrent ovarian cancer: 360 mg/m2 by IV on day 1 every 4 weeks, Usually, single intermittent courses should not be repeated until the neutrophil count is at least 2000 and the platelet count is at least 100,000.
  • COMBINATION THERAPY (with cyclophosphamide) for use in the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer (an effective combination for previously untreated patients): -Carboplatin: 300 mg/m2 by IV on day 1 every 4 weeks for 6 cycles.
  • Cyclophosphamide 600 mg/m2 IV on day 1 every 4 weeks for 6 cycles -Intermittent courses of carboplatin in combination with cyclophosphamide should not be repeated until the neutrophil count is at least 2000 and the platelet count is at least 100,000.
