Picasa Oral Suspension contains a medicine called posaconazole. Picasa Oral Suspension is in a class of medications called azole antifungals. It is used to prevent and treat fungal infections when other antifungal medicines have not worked, or you have had to stop taking them.
It is an antifungal agent used to treat invasive Aspergillus and Candida infections in patients who are severely immunocompromised, such as Hemopoietic Stem cell Transplant recipients with Graft versus host disease or those with blood cancer with prolonged neutropenia from chemotherapy.
Picasa 40mg Oral Suspension should be taken in the dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage and length of treatment will depend on the condition you are being treated for.
To get the most benefit, take this medicine at evenly spaced times and continue using it until your prescription is finished, even if your symptoms disappear after a few days. If you stop treatment too early, the infection may return and if you miss doses you can increase your risk of infections that are resistant to further treatment.
Talk to your doctor before taking it if you have ever had heart failure, kidney problems, or liver problems such as yellow skin (jaundice). This medicine may not be suitable for you.
Picasa suspension inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol by binding and inhibiting the lanosterol-14alpha-demethylase, which is present in almost all fungi as a key component of the fungal cell membrane. This is the cause of antifungal activity.
